Call For Papers
FDCR Full Paper submissions are now closed.
The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) hereby invite students, researchers, academia and industry practitioners to submit papers to the Foundational Digital Capabilities Research (FDCR) 2025 Conference, which will be held at the Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel and Convention Centre in Umhlanga, South Africa on 17 to 18 July 2025. The conference will be co-located with the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT) 2025 Conference.
The FDCR Platform is a flagship programme of the DSTI, facilitating research, development and innovation across the digital economy value chain. The purpose of the conference is to present current research aligned with the FDCR2025 theme and sub-themes, and to provide a platform where the participants can discuss research interests and form collaborative research networks.
We are looking forward to discussions on shared expertise under the theme – “Towards a sustainable digital economy” – with papers being invited under the following sub-themes:
- Modelling and Simulation
- Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
- Mixed Reality and Digital Twins
- Cloud to Edge Computing, Advanced-IoT, and Networking
- Cybersecurity and Blockchain.
Students, researchers, academia and industry practitioners are invited to submit short abstracts on the above sub-themes. The scientific programme will include oral presentations selected from submitted abstracts, as well as poster presentations. Full paper submissions will be double-blind peer reviewed by a panel of experts and accepted papers will be published in the FDCR 2025 online proceedings with an ISBN. Accepted full papers must be presented at the conference by either the main author or one of the co-authors to be considered for publication.
We welcome the participation of students and will offer grants to cover expenses for a limited number of FDCR2025 students.
15 July: Workshops and Tutorials
16 July: Student Conference (9:00-14:00) followed by an FDCR Forum meeting (15:00-17:00).
