Prof (Dr) Kiran Bhujun

Prof Kiran Bhujun is the Director of the Tertiary Education and Scientific Research Division at the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research of Mauritius since 2016. With over 25 years of multidisciplinary experience, he has held key positions across government, academia, and international collaboration. His career includes roles such as Project Manager at the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Registrar of the Council of Registered Professional Engineers of Mauritius, and Senior Engineer at the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, where he contributed to traffic management, building regulation, and contract administration.
He also served as Deputy Director and Registrar of the Mauritius Qualifications Authority, contributing to the regulation of TVET, and as Secretary General of the Mauritius National Commission for UNESCO, where he led project implementation and institutional engagement. Between 2018 and 2019, he was seconded as Officer-in-Charge of the University of Technology, Mauritius, where his leadership brought operational improvements, enhanced accountability, and strategic repositioning. From 2020 to 2022, he was Vice-Chancellor of AMITY Mauritius, also overseeing campuses in Kenya and South Africa.
Prof Bhujun holds qualifications in law, civil engineering, business administration, project management, and higher education governance. Passionate about higher education policy, institutional efficiency, and research democratisation, he champions inclusive growth in academia. He is also deeply committed to social engagement and personal empowerment, guided by the belief that “a single candle can light the world.”
